Desert House Caravan and Camping Park; sounds wonderful. So why only two stars? Excellent question! Answer, rural it is -and small and it does not have 4 star amenities.

But what it does have is wonderful. It is a working farm; there will be bullocks grazing in a field possibly adjacent to yours. Your children can watch cows being milked! You can buy fresh eggs and listen to the cockerel crowing dominance most mornings. Luckily he’s a late riser. You will overlook the estuary and the rooftops of Clonakilty. You may pick wild flowers or blackberries in the hedgerows and love it all. When you want to wander into the town on foot , it’s only ten minutes away.

It is so peaceful, spacious for children to play and for adults to mill around chattering.

Will it bother you to be separated from Wifi for a bit? There isn’t any excepting on a stool in the office or sitting outside the cowshed.

At some point in this gentle place you may remember the Wordsworth tag; “What is this life if full of care we have no time to stop and stare” and be glad David Jennings opens his farm for a few weeks every summer.

Lovely family run site. Very helpful as it was our first time caravanning!!!! Close to town and beach.

David Jennings could not be more helpful, it was a pleasure talking to him. Toilet block very clean, as with all Irish campsites showers require euros. At Desert you require a Euro coin for 4 minutes, showers were lovely and hot. Both Elec and water on each hard standing plot, due to the amount of rain (I find that hard to believe lol) we could not use the grass. The views were great, overlooking Clonakilty Bay. We would definitely stay at Desert again.

The tent-only part of Desert House campsite in Clonakilty looks down over the estuary and resonates with the sound of curlews. It’s gorgeous. And the SuperValu in Clon is nearly as good as the English market in cork for all your supplies.
